Our Penguin Unit
During our penguin unit, we discovered that the Emporer Penguin can grow up to 4 feet which is almost as tall as a 4 year old child! We decided to test this fact, and see if our friends were taller than the Emporer Penguin. With the help of our peanut butter and jelly partners, we rolled out paper and cut it the same size as our friends. Then our partners worked very well with each other to put blocks together that we the same length as the paper strip.
Once all the blocks were ready, our partners counted with each other to see how many blocks tall they were.
We learned that Christian was the tallest friend in our class! Also, that Maelynn was ONE block taller than the penguin!
Here are some penguin handprints and information we learned about penguins!

Transportation During our transportation unit, we learned about all different types of vehicles. We learned that a vehicle is made to take you places. Our children spent a lot of time sorting and graphing information that they had learned. Here we are spending time measuring the length of different types of vehicles.
After we put the blocks together our partners helped each other to count how many blocks long their vehicle was.
Finally, we looked at the numbers and put the vehicles in order from the shortest to longest! We asked our friends how could you make a vehicle go faster? We listed the possibilities but decided to test out going down a hill. We built ramps in our room with blocks. We made ramps with just 1 block, 2 blocks, even 4 blocks! We used a car to test out the ramps and found that the ramp with 4 blocks made our car go the fastest! Here are some ramps our friends made.
We also went outside with our graphs and documented the color of cars that were around our school! We saw many cars passing us and some that were parked! Our friends had a lot of fun shouting out the colors that they saw! We ended up seeing white cars the most!
