Welcome to the 2012-2013 Opportunity Middle School page. We are an alternative school for students who have been long-term suspended or can not otherwise go to their traditional middle school. Over the last few years, we have continued to grow, adapt, and remake our school as we strive to meet the various and changing needs of our students. We have a rigorous, interesting, and hands-on curriculum.
We offer the core subjects: Math, Science, Social Studies, English/Language Arts, and Physical Education.Textbooks are not sent home, but there are homework assignments, reading, and projects that students are expected to complete at home. At this time we have three core teachers, an EC teacher, and a physical education teacher.
Students are expected to come to class prepared to learn and to complete their current grade. No one is entitled to come to this school. Instead, each student must go through a screening process before enrolling in our program. This is a student's opportunity to complete the current grade without penalty or retention.
There is a point and level system that allows the students to transition back to there home school. In order to complete the program successfully the students must show positive gains in behavior, academics, and attendance.
Students must be in dress code at all times. There are no book bags, purses, or electronic devices; no lockers; no jewelry. Students may transition back to there home school when they have reached level 4 on our point and level system.
Students are encouraged to make changes in their choices and behavior. We are here to help by teaching, tutoring, mentoring, counseling, and offering field trips to acquire hands-on experiences students may not otherwise have.
