Cabarrus College of Health Sciences will host a Discovery Day on
Thursday, May 30 from 9:00 a.m -1:00 p.m. for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who would like to learn more about healthcare careers. Students will have the opportunity to learn hands on about our Medical Assistant, Nursing, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Surgical Technology and Pharmacy Technology programs. The American Legion Beaver-Pittman Post 115 is sponsoring two boys to attend the 74th Annual Tar Heel Boys State summer leadership program from June 16-22, 2013 at Catawba College. This intense workshop is only for males who have successfully completed their junior year of high school and have at least one more semester of high school remaining. It is highly intense in nature and teaches in a practical way the principles of good government at the city, county, and state levels. This would look EXCELLENT on your college application!! Heels for Success/UNC - A one-day summer program at Chapel Hill designed for high achieving rising sophomores and juniors from diverse backgrounds, including underrepresented students, first-generation college students, and those form rural areas or disadvantaged backgrounds. Should be academically motivated, rank in the top 10% of your class, and be enrolled in or planning on enrolling in AP course, foreign language, and advanced mathematics. Nominees should also show active involvement in extracurricular activities and have demonstrated leadership. This one-day program is designed to help prepare students for college. WISH, the Women in STEM High School Aerospace Scholars project is now accepting applications from female high school juniors from across the country. Selected participants will complete online activities and participate in online forums focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematic (STEM) topics to be eligible for the summer experience at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. During the summer experience, they will chart a course for Mars, engage with NASA female role models, interact with scientists and engineers and learn about careers in STEM. Their is a lag in processing and it is not instantaneous. Students taking SAT need to be aware of major security changes. You will be required to bring your admission ticket, and an approved photo ID (current driver's license, passport, or other government issued picture ID). You CANNOT BE ADMITTED WITHOUT THESE TWO ITEMS! If you do not have an up to date photo ID, see your counselor and we can work with you to complete an alternate photo ID form. Students must report to the testing center on their admission ticket, there can be no test center changes and no "walk on testing". Collegeboard site offers a waitlist status that you must complete online before the test. You will be issued a waitlist admission ticket and if there is room after all registered test takers are admitted, you will be allowed to test. Come prepared so you are not turned away. No exceptions!!

College Applications will be online after August 1, 2012. GPA and class rank may be found on the transcript received in the mail with your final report card. We highly recommend you do your applications early and that you do NC college applications through the College Foundation of North Carolina at

. Transcripts may be sent electronically to NC colleges from the CFNC site. Be sure your CFNC profile includes your NC Wise # (lunch #) and indicate Northwest Cabarrus HS as your school.
Register online to take the SAT/ACT. If you hope to attend a four-year college in the fall after you graduate, have taken Algebra II, and are a junior or senior, you need to take the SAT and/or ACT college entrance exam. The cost is $47-48 if you register by the posted deadlines. More information is available on the left hand side of our webpage under college/entrance exams. Student athletes - If you are interested in playing a sport in college, it is very important that you know the academic requirements for NCAA eligibility beginning with your freshman year in high school!
