C.C. Griffin Counseling Program |
The C.C. Griffin Counseling Department offers individual counseling, small group counseling and classroom guidance lessons to address academic, career and personal / social development needs.
- Our Classroom Guidance lessons are developed to assist students in coping with changes that adolescence brings. Topics include transition from elementary school, bullying, friendship skills, stress management, study skills, multicultural world, anger management, career awareness and transition to high school.
- Small group counseling is based upon identified needs of students who share common concerns. Group counseling topics vary from year to year but may include family changes / divorce, friendship skills, grief and loss, stress management and special conditions such as ADD, Asperger's and Juvenile Diabetes.
- School counselors are available for short-term individual counseling. Referrals for counseling can be made by parents, school staff or by self-referral. The school counselor may recommend an outside therapist or agency if more regular or intensive services are needed.
- The counselors lead the Student Services Management Team (SSMT) which identifies and monitors students with academic and behavioral concerns. The Student Service Management Team coordinates referrals to the Exceptional Children's Assistance Team (ECAT) which determines eligibility for special services.
- School Counselors link students and families with school and community resources as needed. Examples include Griffin Grocery and the Clothing Closet.
