The mission of the Elementary Education Department, a dedicated educational team in partnership with our community, is to prepare all elementary students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in academics and character in order to become lifelong learners and contributing citizens.

Our elementary students perform well on state accountability testing. In grades 3-8 - 88% of our students are on or above grade level in reading and 92% are on or above grade level in math: NC School Report Cards.

Five of our elementary schools met all AYP goals

All of our elementary schools offer programs to support and develop productive citizens in a democratic society: Kids Voting, Character Education, Counseling Programs, Make a Difference Project, International Day, Anti-bullying program- "Second Steps", Family Life in fourth and fifth grades, and many other programs

We believe educating the whole child is important and every elementary child receives instruction in art, physical education, healthy living styles, and music, as well as a solid curriculum program in all content areas

All of our elementary schools offer intervention programs: tutoring, small group instruction, and summer school programs at individual school sites

Our elementary schools have implemented reserach proven instruction in Direct Instruction for reading for beginning readers and struggling readers; This includes Language for Learning, Reading Mastery I & II, and Corrective Reading
