New Administrative Appointments

Cabarrus County Schools Superintendent Barry Shepherd has announced the following personnel appointments:

Dr. Mary Beth Roth, principal of Coltrane-Webb Elementary School, will become principal of Harold E. Winkler Middle School.  Roth has led Coltrane-Webb since the summer of 2010 and has been instrumental in the school's successful transformation into a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) magnet school.  She also served as director of middle school curriculum for CCS from 2006 to 2009. Dr. Roth joined Cabarrus County Schools in 1996 as an assistant principal at J.N. Fries Middle School. She also served as assistant principal of instruction at the school before being named its principal in 2001. Roth earned a doctorate in educational leadership and a master's degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Appalachian State University.

Julie Barbee,  assistant principal at Coltrane-Webb Elementary School, will become principal of Coltrane-Webb. Barbee has served as assistant principal at the school since 2010. Before joining Coltrane-Webb, she was an assistant principal of instruction at Pitts School Road Elementary School. Barbee joined Cabarrus County Schools in 1999 as a teacher at Bethel Elementary School. She earned a master's degree in school administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a bachelor's degree from Pfeiffer University.

Greg Liddle, principal of Harold E. Winkler Middle School, will become assistant principal at Mount Pleasant High School. Liddle has been instrumental in the opening of several schools in our system - Cox Mill Elementary School where he served as an assistant principal; Carl A. Furr Elementary School where he served as principal; and most recently, Harold E. Winkler Middle School. He joined Cabarrus County Schools in 1999 as a teacher at Concord Middle. Liddle earned a master's degree in school administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Purdue University.

Jon LaChance, assistant principal at Mount Pleasant High School, will become assistant principal at Charles E. Boger Elementary School. LaChance joined Cabarrus County Schools in 2003 as a teacher at Central Cabarrus High School. He also worked as a teacher at Hickory Ridge High School before joining the administrative team at Mount Pleasant High School in 2011. He earned a master's degree in school administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a bachelor's degree in secondary education from State University of New York College at Buffalo.

Amy Violette, assistant principal at Charles E. Boger Elementary School, will become assistant principal at Coltrane-Webb Elementary School. Violette joined Cabarrus County Schools in 2003 as a teacher at Mount Pleasant Elementary School. She also served as a North Carolina Principal Fellow at Pitts School Road Elementary School before becoming an assistant principal at Charles E. Boger Elementary in 2009. She earned a master's degree in school administration and a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

These appointments are effective Monday, September 24th.
