Students Attend STEM Camp

Click to View SlideshowRecently, Cabarrus County 4H and J.N. Fries Magnet School partnered to conduct a week-long STEM camp, exposing 100 middle school students to various science activities.

The camp allowed students to participate in hands-on science activities and field trips related to the power of wind, veterinary sciences, water, and agricultural sciences. Examples of the fun STEM activities included:  using the power of wind to lift a load or to power student-created model boats, making paper out of recycled materials, creating bio-degradable molds and inks, and using an Enviroscape to study water pollution.

Daily field trips included visiting the Energy Explorium at the Duke Energy McGuire Nuclear Station, studying animal sciences at a local farm, visiting the Coddle Creek water treatment facility, and exploring the latest developments in strawberry research at the Piedmont Research Station.

The 4H STEM camp was made possible through a generous grant awarded by the GlaxoSmithKline Foundation.
