R. Brown McAllister Elementary Students Support Troops

R. Brown McAllister's Bobcats on a Mission, the school's 5th grade student community service group had the privilege and honor to lead a service project to support our U.S. troops.  Under the direction of 4th grade teacher Sandy Bravo-Boyd and Mrs. Maguire, a parent volunteer, the students organized and collected bags of items for seven care packages that will be sent to relatives of students and staff who are serving in the US military.

This was a wonderful learning experience for the entire R. Brown community. This project showed the students the importance of thanking America's service men and women just in time for Veteran's Day, caring for other individuals that they may not know and recognizing the tremendous impact of giving to others.

Along with the 28-member student group, many staff members including Mrs. Edwards, Mrs. Vandagriff, Mrs. Gilliam, Mrs. Austin and Mr. Evans, RBM's 2nd grade team and students; Mrs. Dilling's 3rd grade class, Mrs. Causey's 5th grade students and Kids Plus coordinators, Ms. Allman and Ms Stafford helped collect several bags of non-perishable items for the service project.

Bravo-Boyd, said, "The 5th grade students were very excited to stuff their storage bags with as many items as possible and include their handmade cards with their special messages written for the soldiers. Our hope was to show our support, deep appreciation and special thanks to these soldiers stationed in California and overseas.  RBM's Bobcats on a Mission were thrilled to stuff these packages with messages of hope and love for our American heroes and she-roes."
