End of the Year Speech
By: Haley Wichman, graduating 5th grader
Welcome teachers, parents, family members and most importantly, fifth grade students. My name is Haley Wichman, and I am a graduating 5th grader. This is such a special day for all of us and I am honored to be a part of this celebration.
Every year we have had the same questions. Who is our teacher going to be? Will our friends be in our class? And what will we learn this year? Well, all of the teachers here are so amazing. At the beginning of the year, I didn't know who Ms. West was because she had just joined our school as a 5th grade teacher. But now I am glad she was my teacher because she is great, funny, and just amazing. And I am sure everyone feels the same about the other amazing 5th grade teachers. Even if our friends are in our class, we always make more new friends. In fourth grade I met one of my best friends. Some of us may go to different middle schools, but I feel sure we are all leaving Irvin with some very special friends. Next year we will make new friends and continue to stay in touch with our old friends.
Every year we get smarter and smarter. We grow as students. We started learning what 1 + 1 is and how to sound out words, and now we know how to find the volume of a shape and read high-level books. We have also grown as people. We have matured and become more responsible for our actions and things. We have learned to respect everyone and everything. And now we are ready to take on 6th grade.
Next year, in middle school, we will meet new teachers and people. School will start later, and now maybe we won't fall asleep in class anymore. We may be nervous about going to middle school with lockers, switching classes, and just a whole new school. But we will have teachers who will help us.
This year we have all worked very hard and I know that our parents and teachers are very proud, and we should be proud of ourselves too. We have done the best we can do, and that is all anyone could ever ask for. As we finish our time in elementary school, we will have a new beginning in middle school. Thank you parents and teachers for supporting us. 5th graders let us continue to be great leaders, good friends and hardworking students now and in the future. Thank you!!!
