MPMS Teacher of the Year 2012-2013
Congratulations to Mrs. Erika Barrier for being selected by her fellow teachers to represent Mt. Pleasant Middle School as Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013. Mrs. Barrier is a sixth grade ELA and Social Studies teacher for the Jaguar Team. We are very proud of Mrs. Barrier!

Proctors Needed for Testing
We need volunteers to proctor for testing. If you have a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, brother, sister, or family friend that is 18 years old or older and out of school, please ask them if they would volunteer to help us out.
Dates Needed: May 13-17, 20-23, 29-31 June 3-6

Who: Any rising 6th, 7th, or 8th grader can participate What: 4 weeks of summer camps When: MPMS is holding several weeks of camps this summer starting the week of July 8 and ending the week of July 29. Camps run Monday through Thursday from 8:30am to 11:30am Where: MPMS Cost: $75 per camp How: Fill out a registration form and return with payment to MPMS by June 7

NEW: Common Core State Standards and N.C. Essential Standards
Each teacher follows specific standards dictating what should be taught within each subject and grade level. The current Standard Course of Study for North Carolina will be replaced with the Common Core State Standards and the North Carolina Essential Standards.
The new Standard Course of Study will be in all schools starting in the 2012-2013 school year. The Common Core State Standards address English/Language Arts, Math, and Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects. The North Carolina Essential Standards provide standards for Social Studies, Science, Information and Technology, World Languages, Arts Education, Healthful Living, Career and Technical Education, and Guidance.
