SchoolCenter PictureWelcome to my homepage! I am Lisa Moore, the Assistant Principal of Instruction at Carl A. Furr Elementary. I have worked closely with teachers to make sure all classrooms have instructional materials to address student needs.

Our school is  one of many elementary schools participating in RtI.  RtI will provide classroom teachers with up to date information on all students.  Through school wide benchmarking three times a year, teachers will be able to find out individul student academic needs and develop inervention strategies to address these needs.  As first quarter ends, please attend a parent/teacher conference to learn more about your child's strengths and needs.  This conference will allow teachers to be able to share graphs that show how your child is performing compared to students across the state and nation.  If you have questions about your child's performance give your child's teacher a call.

Exciting things are happening in reading this year in your child's classroom.  The focus of reading instruction is strengthening teacher's skills in guided reading so your child's needs will be met.  A number of teachers are implementing reader's workshop this year.  Students will be challenged to become engaged with text.  Teachers will be conferring with individual students to monitor comprehension.  In kindergarten and first grade all students are participating in a reading program- Direct Instruction. Students needs are addressed in a small group. Direct Instruction is research based, explicit reading instruction.

There are a number of volunteer opportunities to assist students with their learning. Furr has programs in place to allow volunteeers to work with individual students or a small group. If you are interested in working directly with students, please let me know.
