Special Olympics - Cabarrus County

Mission:

Special Olympics mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their familiies, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Eligibility:

To be eligiable to participate in Special Olympics, an athlete must be at least eight years old and identified by an agency or professional as having one of the following conditions: intellectual disabilities, cognitive delays as measured by a formal assessment, or significant learning or vocational problems due to cognitive delay that require, or have required, specially designed instruction. We also have a young athletes and a play activities program that 3-8 year olds can participate in. All athletes must have a current athlete participation form on file.

Sports Offered:

Special Olympics - Cabarrus County serves over 700 athletes with 15 sports. SOCC has sports programs in aquatics, athletics, basketball, bocce, bowling, cheerleading, cycling, equestrian, golf, powerlifting, soccer, softball, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.

The Special Olympics Team of Cabarrus County just returned from the Fall State games in High Point where they took many medals in Bocce, Soccer, Golf and Cycling.  Cabarrus County was the first to demonstrate the new sport of Flag Football.  Our program is constantly growning and we appreciate all who support SOCC.
