Answers
1)  Q Will athletics be offered at HiRMS?
A
Yes - we will offer the same athletic programs as the other middle schools in Cabarrus County Schools. Information about physicals, try-outs, etc. will be communicated via this web page and our other social media during the summer for fall sports. Sports and seasons are listed below: Fall - football, softball; Winter One - 8th basketball (boy's and girls), wrestling; Winter Two - 7th basketball (boy's and girl's); Spring - baseball, track, volleyball, and soccer (offered through FCC). Information regarding fall sports is posted on the athletics page, which can be accessed fron the left hand menu of the main page of this website.
2)  Q What should I do if I need to register a student for HiRMS?
A
If your student is currently enrolled in Cabarrus County Schools, nothing else needs to be done. Your students records will transfer automatically and follow your child to HiRMS over the summer. Summer enrollment hours (for families who move to the area over the summer or have students who are currently enrolled elsewhere) are currently posted on the main web page.
3)  Q We have recently moved to Harrisburg and will be assigned to HiRMS in the fall. What should I do?
A
Please enroll your student at the school they are currently assigned to for the remainder of the year. Their records will then move to us over the summer for the fall semester.
4)  Q What is the mascot for Hickory Ridge Middle School?
A
We will be known as the Hickory Ridge Middle School Mavericks! The mascot and logo, along with an explanation of the symbolism, is located on the history page. During our inaugural year, a vote was held and the mascot is known as Marvin The Marvelous Maverick.
5)  Q How do I leave a question to be answered on this page?
A
In the left menu bar is a link that states "Contact Us." Click on this link and complete the information to send your question to us.

Support positions will be advertised during the summer, likely in June.

12)  Q Can sixth graders participate in sports?
A
Regretfully, the state of North Carolina does not allow sixth graders to participate in athletics. However, the sixth grade year is an excellent opportunity for students to attend the games and become actively involved in other social activities as they adjust to middle school life.
13)  Q What types of locks do we need for our lockers?

All students are required to have combination locks. Students will need two locks - one for their personal locker and one for their gym locker. We will have a limited number of locks available at the Open House (August 20) for purchase that will fit the lockers.

A
Summer enrollment hours (for families who move to the area over the summer or have students who are currently enrolled elsewhere) are posted on the main web page.
16)  Q How will 6th grade electives work?

A
Once we have a staff in place, we will work to determine which clubs, organizations, and other extracurricular activities to offer. Near the beginning of the school year, we will communicate the information with you via this website and other social media.

23)  Q When will AIG testing be offered at HiRMS?
A

AIG testing for Math is offered in the spring in each student's individual classrooms at there home school and the home school AIG committee makes the placement decisions.

If a student is AIG in English Language Arts (ELA), they continue on an annual basis and no further testing is required. Teachers may recommend students to be tested for ELA and these are handled on an individual bais.

For those students that enroll over the summer who meet all other AIG requirements in either Math or ELA, the appropriate test will be administered in August once teachers have reported back to school. This date and the times will also be posted on our web page once they have been determined.
